Vegas Jazz, also known as, The Las Vegas Jazz Society, was founded April 22, 1975 by renowned
jazz artist and pioneer of the use of the electric bass in jazz, Monk Montgomery. Vegas Jazz (LVJS) is a 501 c3, non-profit, run by an all-volunteer
board.
We work closely with the Joe Williams Scholarship Foundation,
the Las Vegas Academy of the Performing Arts High School's Jazz Program,
the UNLV Jazz Studies Program, and the College of Southern
Nevada's Jazz Program.
We provide 10 scholarships annually to the College of Southern Nevada's
Summer Jazz Camp. One of these scholarships is named in honor of Las
Vegas Jazz Master, Trombonist, and Big Band Conductor, Jimmy Wilkins.
Vegas Jazz members receive our bi-monthly 12-page newsletter--Jazz Notes!,
e-mail notification of upcoming jazz events, and discounts at concerts and special events.
