WELCOME to the Las Vegas Jazz Society
The Las Vegas Jazz Society was founded April 22, 1975 by renowned
jazz artist Monk Montgomery, who saw the need to support the many accomplished
musicians who worked in the neon city's lounges, clubs and big rooms.
Although the jazz scene in Las Vegas has changed through the decades, The
Las Vegas Jazz Society, a 501 c3, non-profit, run by an all-volunteer
board, remains dedicated to supporting, celebrating and preserving America's
Classic Music: JAZZ in Las Vegas.
Each September through June we present its live concert series where featuring
groups from small combos to big bands, both instrumental and vocal.
We work closely with the Joe Williams Scholarship Foundation,
the Las Vegas Academy of the Performing Arts High School's Jazz Program,
the UNLV Jazz Studies Program, and the College of Southern
Nevada's Jazz Program.
We provide 10 scholarships annually to the College of Southern Nevada's
Summer Jazz Camp. One of these scholarships is named in honor of Las
Vegas Jazz Master, Trombonist, and Big Band Conductor, Jimmy Wilkins.
LVJS members receive our 12-page, bi-monthly issue of Jazz Notes!,
highlighting LV jazz musicians and events.
