Board of Directors Biographies


JUDY TARTE has served the LVJS since 2010 in various capacities: grant writer, Editor of the JazzNotes! magazine, Vice President and as President since 2014. She was on the original LVJS Board with founder Monk Montgomery in 1975 and resumed her support upon her return to Las Vegas in 2009 after her long time partner jazz saxophonist, Joe Romano passed away

ADAM SCHROEDER is currently serving as Secretary to the Board. He is a full-time professional Jazz musician and educator, on the faculty of the UNLV Jazz Studies program. . He feels that he offers a fresh set of openminded eyes and ideas coming from someone who works within this diverse Jazz landscape with the youngest and most enthusiastic souls as well as those that have set the model and bar on what it is to be a Jazz musician.

He offers his services to LVJS, an outgoing, tenured organization whose goals are to continue to promote and preserve the music we so love on a daily basis.

JAMES CORWIN has been serving on the LVJS Board of Directors since 2014. He currently serves the Board in the position of Treasurer. He retired from Chevron in 1996 after a 32 year career in Marketing and Financial Management and returned to Las Vegas to make his home here. After rejoining LVJS (of which he had been a member while living here in both the 80s and 90s), he was pleased to see the positive advancements and spirit of the Board members and began his involvement in volunteering in our world of jazz.

Directors (Executive Board)

CHUCK CARTER was elected to the Board in 2017. Chuck is a well know figure and volunteer at many Jazz Society functions. After establishing residency here in 2003, he quickly became part to the local jazz scene and was able to fulfill a lifelong dream when he became a jazz DJ at KUNV’s (91.5) Classic Jazz programming format. He taught the UNLV OSHER/OLLI Jazz Appreciation Class for several years, a class designed to teach the history and preservation as well as to instill an appreciation of jazz music. Drawing from the wealth of musicians and vocalists in our city, Chuck often featured live music within the classroom setting so that participants could experience and better understand the idiom

Jonathan Karrant was born in the heart of America at the foothills of the Ozarks in Fort Smith, Arkansas. He started singing in church at the early age of five and began his relationship with Jazz soon after. He worked with the UAFS Jazz big-band and then went on to New York city to study further. Since he has toured the states as well as Europe performing in jazz clubs and performing arts centers. His album, On and On hit number four on the jazz charts and he's been honored throughout the states. Once settling in Las Vegas he wanted to get more involved with the community. The Las Vegas Jazz Society is an organization that Jonathan truly believes in. He looks forward to seeing Jazz, one of America's greatest art forms continue to thrive and grow in the Las Vegas area. 
MAGGIE MANCUSO has served on the LVJS Board of Directors since 2014. She is a former actress, entertainer and location manager for TV and films (most notably Casino). She serves on the Events Committee and is co-ordinator for the Sunday Jazz at the Bootlegger Bistro series. Her husband, Gus, is a well known jazz musician.
RICHARD (RICK) VITTALLO has served on the LVJS Board since 2016. A guitarist, vocalist and conductor, Rick is the host of the VegasJazz Radio streaming show. He has worked with many stars including Frank Sinatra and has conducted for Engelbert Humperdinck, Connie Stevens and Buddy Greco as well as a number of major orchestras including the Los Angeles Philharmonic, the Chicago Symphony and the Melbourne Symphony.
